The present study initiates an interdisciplinary dialogue on the issue of migration and religion and examines the encounter between religion and migration from a theological-missiological perspective. The study introduces globalisation as the context and migration as the major dynamic through which the context is created. Context (from Latin meaning 'weaving together') is understood both as a product and as an ongoing process carried out by human agents.
The dynamics of migration creates two basic categories within the context: those who change localities (migrants) and those who do not (non-migrants). Both categories are engaged in theologising on migration. The study proposes an encounter between the two perspectives through the concept of neighbour.
