On 26 October 2010, Jonathan Klick was installed as the Erasmus Chair of Empirical Legal Studies at Erasmus University Rotterdam. In his inaugural lecture, he presented data on the increasing importance of empirical work in the law and economics literature. Although the field continues to be dominated by theorists, there are strong indications that empirical work is becoming central in this area. Over the past decade, data-driven scholarship has become more common in virtually all of the journals that focus on law and economics, as well as general interest law reviews. This trend is having an important effect on law school faculty hiring and promises to have a lasting effect on our knowledge of the effect of laws on individual behavior.
Jonathan Klick (1975), Professor of Law at the University of Pennsylvania Law School, has been appointed part-time Erasmus Chair of Empirical Legal Studies at Erasmus School of Law. Professor Klick is both a lawyer and economist and he specializes in empirical law and economics. He joins the Erasmus School of Law interdisciplinary research team 'Behavioural approaches to contract and tort' to pursue new strands of empirical research into areas such as corporate governance and tort law. He has ample experience in methodology of empirical law and economics and he will thus provide invaluable input for accomplishing the empirical aspirations of Erasmus School of Law research.
