The career of Wisconsinborn Joseph Losey spanned over four decades and severalcountries. A selfproclaimed Marxist and veteran of the 1930s Soviet agitproptheater he collaborated with Bertholt Brecht before directing noir Bpicturesin Hollywood. A victim of McCarthyism he later crossed the Atlantic to directa series of seminal British films such as Time Without Pity Eve TheServant and The GoBetween which mark him as one of the cinemas greatestbaroque stylists.
