This volume is designed to introduce students to cognitive neuroscience anemerging and exciting discipline whose goal is to understand the brain bases ofcognitive function. This book will provide such an introduction by presentingkey readings written by leaders in the field.Because cognitive neuroscience is an inherently multidisciplinary field thatdraws from neuropsychology cognitive science neurophysiology and computerscience the first section of the reader will introduce students to the multifaceted methods currently being used in the field. Background readings willintroduce students to singlecell recordings neuropsychological studies brainmapping and computational modeling. The book will then emphasize key conceptualand empirical work in six cognitive domains object recognition faceprocessing language attention longterm memory and working memory. For eachof these six cognitive domains there will be a representative article for eachof the four methods that demonstrate their application to the critical issuesin cognitive neuroscience. Each section will include an introductory essayproviding a conceptual framework and historical background that will providethe student with an overview for that portion of the book. In addition eacharticle will be preceded by a short piece that will direct the student to theessential conceptual issues being addressed in the article. «
