Not quite as modern asBirkhoff and MacLanes text or Manes work this volume forms theunderpinnings of both works. If you have a good understanding of thepreliminary work required in algebra and geometry Hardy can be read directlyand with pleasure. If you have a desire to understand the basis of what ispresented in most firstyear calculus texts then Hardys text is for you. «
